Sexual health records

Due to the launch of Epic, our new patient record system, and the MyChart patient app, the way we store sexual health information has changed.  This will streamline our service and improve efficiencies within our sexual health clinics.

When you attend our sexual health clinics, you will be asked if you are happy to have your sexual health records linked with the main health record you have in the hospital. Having one health record with all your information stored in one place is much safer for your care and will improve the quality of the service you receive.

Even if your sexual health notes are linked with your main hospital health records, your appointments at the clinics, notes and test results will not be visible to anyone outside the sexual health clinic. Doctors and nurses in other parts of the hospital and at Guy’s and St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust, which has also moved to this new health record system, will be able to see the treatments you have been prescribed here, but not what happened in your appointment or what the treatments were given for.

You have two options when attending our clinics.

  1. You can create a linked account – if you are happy for your sexual health records to be linked with your main hospital record, then please register with the details you would normally use at the main hospital.
  2. You can create an unlinked account – if you do not want the treatments you receive from our sexual health clinics to be linked with your main hospital records, please register with an unlinked account. Please let reception staff and your clinician know this when you are registering and they will advise you on how to do this.

If you choose option 1 you will be able to access all of your results in MyChart, the Trust’s new online service that makes accessing your health record easier. Find out more information about MyChart here. If you choose option 2, you will need to create a new account to access your sexual health record via MyChart.
