Reducing disparities in access and outcomes in health inequalities
King’s is committed to delivering excellent health outcomes for our patients, and in ensuring they always feel safe, cared for and listened to. Our Tackling Health Inequalities brochure showcases some of the incredible projects underway across King’s services that are aimed at addressing disparities in access, experience and outcomes for our diverse local communities.
Centric Community Research
Centric Community Research is a research hub developed, owned, and operated by the communities of Lambeth and Southwark.
Throughout 2023, King’s partnered with Centric to conduct research and establish recommendations to better understand and address health inequalities which culminated in the publication of two reports.
The first report explores how patients would like to be engaged with and communicated to about the five key health issues common across South East London (‘the Vital 5’). The Vital 5 are smoking, weight, high blood pressure, alcohol abuse and mental health. Find out about the findings and recommendations of the report.
The second report explores how to make research and clinical trials more inclusive and reflective of the local community, by helping the Trust to better understand the barriers to participation and put in place actions to address them. Find out about the findings and recommendations of the report.
LGBTQ+ South East London Breast Screening Research Project
The South East London Breast Screening Programme (SELBSS) is based at King’s. In 2024, with funding from the South East London Cancer Alliance, SELBSS collaborated with UK LGBTQI+ charity OUTpatients to produce some local research on health inequalities that the LGBTQ+ community face. The research highlights health inequalities in breast screening and beyond, shares community opinions and provides recommendations for both local and national improvements toward reducing these inequalities. Find out about the findings and recommendations of the report.
