Biography

Dr Biba Stanton is a Consultant Neurologist at King’s College Hospital and South London and Maudsley NHS Foundation Trusts. She specialises in functional neurological disorder (FND), neuropsychiatry and complex diagnostic presentations at the interface of neurology and mental health.

She trained in neurology in London, including at the Royal Free Hospital and the National Hospital for Neurology and Neurosurgery. She completed a PhD in Psychology at King’s College London and is a Visiting Senior Lecturer. Her academic work focuses on FND and the evaluation of clinical evidence. She has authored more than 50 peer-reviewed publications, including work in The Lancet Neurology, JNNP and EClinicalMedicine.

Dr Stanton leads the KHP Functional Neurological Disorders workstream. She recently secured new regional investment to develop an integrated cross-sector FND network across South East London, one of the largest specialist services of its kind in the UK.

She has held a number of national leadership roles. She is Honorary Secretary and Trustee of the Association of British Neurologists and serves as an Appeal Panel Chair at NICE, where she chairs public hearings relating to technology appraisal decisions. She is also a member of NHS England’s National Individual Funding Request panel.

Within the Trust, she is the clinical lead for neurology and has an interest in professional standards and governance.
