Peripheral nerve

What we do

We treat conditions that affect the peripheral nerves. For example, peripheral neuropathy and Charcot-Marie-Tooth disease (also known as hereditary motor and sensory neuropathy, or HMSN).

Peripheral nerves are the nerves that are found outside the main central nervous system (the brain and spinal cord).

We are a Centre of Excellence for treating Chronic inflammatory demyelinating polyneuropathy (CIDP) and Guillain-Barré Syndrome, as designated by the GBS-CIDP Foundation International.

We provide:

  • investigations including electromyography (EMG)
  • nerve biopsies
  • skin biopsies for small fibre neuropathy
  • somatosensory evoked potentials (SSEP)
  • intravenous and home subcutaneous immunoglobulin, with specialist nurse
  • plasma exchange through peripheral venous access.

We are part of the neurology department.
