Gastroenterology

What we do

We treat all diseases of the digestive tract, which includes the oesophagus and stomach as well as the small and large intestines. Liver or pancreatic problems are treated by our colleagues in hepatology (liver medicine).

We have specialist outpatient clinics which diagnose and treat common conditions, such as dyspepsia, inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) and irritable bowel syndrome (IBS).

We also treat diseases of the small and large bowel in close collaboration with the specialist colorectal surgery clinic.

Patient Information Leaflets

Conditions we treat

At King's we see and treat patients with a full range of gastrointestinal diseases. Patients with gut, pancreatic and liver diseases are managed by our colleagues in hepatology.

We run specialist clinics in dyspepsia, inflammatory bowel disease, coeliac disease, gastrointestinal complications of diabetes and irritable bowel syndrome.

We also closely collaborate with the specialist colorectal surgery clinic for patients with diseases of the small and large bowel.

What is required before referring a patient

We send many routine patients a letter requesting that they have certain studies before being seen in outpatients. This is so we can make a quicker diagnosis and keep the number of visits they make to the hospital to a minimum.
