State-of-the art SPECT-CT scanner at King’s

16 July 2026 - King’s College Hospital’s radiology department is now able to provide shorter and more comfortable nuclear medicine scans for patients.

The Siemens Symbia Pro.specta SPECT-CT scanner has replaced one of three SPECT-CT systems within the Nuclear Medicine service at King’s College Hospital. In collaboration with teams across the Trust, in addition to diagnostic imaging, the service also provides advanced radioligand therapies: a specialised treatment for cancer and neuroendocrine tumours.

This investment strengthens King’s Radiology services’ position as a leading centre for innovation in Nuclear Medicine and theragnostics. It enables the department to deliver cutting-edge imaging for both routine and highly specialised services, while reducing radiation exposure for patients and staff.

Dr Nicola Mulholland, Nuclear Medicine Clinical Lead at King’s College Hospital, said: “The scanner provides the latest imaging technology, providing better quality images, enabling faster scans, and greater accuracy in detecting and monitoring disease.  Above all, it represents an investment in better care, better patient outcomes, and the future of diagnostic and therapeutic innovation.”

Estevao Bagi, Nuclear Medicine Clinical and Service Manager at King’s College Hospital, added: “The state-of-the-art imaging system represents a major step forward for Nuclear Medicine at King’s, helping bring down our waiting lists and future-proof services for years to come.”
