What we do
King's hepatobiliary and pancreatic (HPB) service provides all-round care for people with liver, pancreatic, bilary and gall bladder disorders.
Our team offers specialist investigations and care for conditions such as:
- primary liver cancer: hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC)
- benign liver tumours: focal nodular hyperplasia (FNH), adenoma, haemangioma
- biliary cystadenoma
- primary biliary cancers: cholangiocarcinoma and gallbladder cancer
- primary pancreatic cancer
- neuroendocrine tumours (NETs) - primary and secondary
- secondary liver tumours from a colorectal, breast or other primary
- chronic and acute pancreatitis
- complex benign hepato-biliary and pancreatic conditions.
The treatments we offer include:
- liver, pancreatic and biliary resection
- percutaneous radio-frequency ablation of primary and secondary liver tumours
- percutaneous chemo-embolisation for primary liver tumours
- percutaneous bland embolisation for liver tumours
- endoscopic radio-frequency ablation for biliary tumours
- Selective Internal Radiation Therapy (SIRT) for primary or secondary liver tumours subject to individual patient funding via primary care trusts or regional cancer drug funds
- sorafenib for primary liver cancer -hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC)- subject to individual patient funding via primary care trusts, regional cancer drug funds, or through a clinical trial
- specialist endoscopic procedures
- radionuclide therapies for neuroendocrine tumours: MiBG and Lutetium Octreotate, the latter of which is subject to individual patient funding via primary care trusts or regional cancer drugs funds
Our consultant oncologists are available in the HPB clinics at King’s to review and assess patients as needed. For systemic chemotherapy and radiotherapy, patients will attend appointments at Guy’s & St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust.
