Biography

Dr Sue Piper is a Consultant Cardiologist at King’s College Hospital, London, specialising in the care of people with heart failure. Dr Piper has extensive experience in diagnosing and treating heart failure and is committed to providing high-quality, compassionate care for patients.

Dr Piper completed specialist training in cardiology and heart failure in South London, working at several leading teaching hospitals, including King’s College Hospital, St George’s Hospital, Royal Brompton Hospital, and Guy’s and St Thomas’ Hospital. This broad training has provided experience across a wide range of heart conditions and treatments. As part of her training, Dr Piper also completed a research degree focussing on the use of biomarkers for the monitoring of chronic heart failure.

Alongside clinical work, Dr Piper plays an active role in improving heart failure services locally, nationally, and across Europe. Dr Piper previously served as a Board Member and Treasurer of the British Society for Heart Failure and as a member of the European Society of Cardiology’s Committee on Patient Care, contributing to the development of best-practice standards.

In her current role, Dr Piper leads the South London Heart Failure Steering Group, working with NHS organisations to improve care and outcomes for patients across the region. Dr Piper also acted as Topic Advisor for the 2025 update of the NICE guidelines for chronic heart failure, which support doctors nationwide in delivering evidence-based care.

In addition to her clinical duties, Dr Piper is the Deputy Lead for the National Heart Failure Audit and is actively involved in research and education as an Honorary Senior Lecturer at King’s College London. Dr Piper’s research focuses on advancing understanding of heart failure and improving patient outcomes across the range of heart failure.
