Simon Friend joins King’s as Non-executive Director

09 October 2023 - Simon Friend has joined King’s College Hospital NHS Foundation Trust as a Non-executive Director (NED).

Simon brings a wealth of experience to the role, most recently as a NED at Guy’s and St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust, where he chairs the finance, commercial and investment committee. Prior to that, he was a NED at Royal Brompton and Harefield NHS Foundation Trust.

With a strong background in Finance and Audit, including as a chartered accountant and former partner at PricewaterhouseCoopers LLP (PwC), Simon has a thorough understanding of governance, and board experience across a range of sectors.

Simon also holds several roles at non-NHS organisations including as a trustee at Jewish Care, a charity providing residential and day care facilities, and as a member of Council at the Royal Academy of Arts.

Simon said: “I am pleased to be joining the Trust Board at King’s at a very important time for the organisation, and the NHS as a whole. I am particularly looking forward to meeting with staff, who do a superb job for the diverse communities we serve.”

Simon joins the Trust for an initial one-year period, and replaces Steve Weiner, who concludes his role as Non-Executive Director at the Trust in October, having taken on the role in March 2021.

Charles Alexander, Chair of King’s College Hospital NHS Foundation Trust, welcomed Simon’s appointment:

“I am delighted to welcome Simon to King’s, where he’ll be a superb addition to the Trust Board, bringing with him a depth of experience from both inside and out of the NHS.

“In addition, I would like to thank Steve Weiner for his commitment and expert guidance to King’s over recent years, which I know has been invaluable.”
