PRUH goes green with electrical charging points

18 September 2024 - Over 40 new charging units are now available at the Princess Royal University Hospital

Patients and visitors at Princess Royal University Hospital (PRUH) in Orpington now have access to one of the UK’s biggest charging points for electric vehicles (EVs) in the south-east.

The PRUH, part of King’s College Hospital NHS Foundation Trust, has introduced 36 new charging points for electric vehicles (EVs), and an additional five points have been installed for staff.

The rollout of 41 new EV charging points is part of the Trust’s commitment to reducing its environmental impact as set out in the King’s Green Plan, by encouraging safe, healthy and sustainable travel for staff and patients.

The charging points include both 7kW and faster 22 kW options, with a charge of £0.54 per kW, and are available to use 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

Angela Helleur, Site Chief Executive for PRUH, said: “More and more of our patients and staff are making the transition to electric cars. We’re proud to help make sure as many people as possible have access to charging points when they are needed, and if demand grows, we may have the opportunity to increase the number of charging points available.

“We hope this ambitious rollout of extra EV chargers will help future drivers feel comfortable to make the switch to electric. This is an important step towards tackling pollution, and creating a greener, cleaner future.”
