#NewProfilePic for July 2025
01 July 2025 - Every month, a different member of staff features as our #NewProfilePic on social media.

This July, Jonalyn Domingo, Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) Nurse at King’s, features as our social media New Profile Pic.
Earning a Bachelor of Science in Nursing in the Philippines in 2011, Jonalyn later pursued a master’s in nursing, specialising in Maternal and Child Health, but when COVID hit, life took her on a different path before she could finish.
What nursing experience did you have before working in the neonatal unit, and how have the skills you gained in those roles helped you develop into a NICU nurse?
“I started as a volunteer NICU nurse after graduating, then advanced from staff nurse to NICU unit manager and quality assurance nurse. Each role sharpened my clinical skills, leadership, and passion for excellence, moulding me into the dedicated NICU nurse I am today.”
What made you feel that a move to neonates was the right move for you?
“From the moment I attended a delivery and witnessed the beauty of life beginning, I knew this is where I was meant to be. The resilience of these tiny humans inspired me – they are miracles.”
What does a typical day look like as a nurse in neonatal care?
“It’s a symphony of alarms, big cries, dirty nappies, running for crash calls. Then there are the heart-stopping moments when those little hands reach for their tubes, all rewarded by these warriors’ stable obs, perfect blood gases, calming grips and smiles on their parents’ faces after a day’s shift. Every day in NICU is different, but every moment is a miracle in the making.”
What do you enjoy most about working within the neonatal unit?
“The incredible fulfilment of watching my patients grow stronger day-by-day and imagining the amazing people they’ll become in the years ahead. It’s a true privilege to be part of the first chapter of tomorrow’s generation.”
What advice would you give nurses who are thinking about a transition into a neonatal unit?
“Brace yourselves for the most fulfilling experience of your life, where every challenge is met with a series of small wins. And the cherry on top? Being part of an incredible, supportive team that brings out your best every day.”
What was appealing about joining Team King’s?
“What was most appealing about joining Team King’s is its reputation for excellence in neonatal care. The outcomes speak for themselves—it’s one of the major referral centres in South-East London, with survival stories including babies born as early as 22 weeks. It felt like the kind of environment where I could grow professionally, make a meaningful difference, and be part of a team that genuinely values and fights for every tiny life.”
