#NewProfilePic for January 2024

01 January 2024 - Every month, a different member of staff will be our #NewProfilePic on social media

Our new staff profile for January 2024 is Dani Nebres, Lead Nurse at King’s Clinical Research Facility (CRF). Dani is an internationally educated nurse from the Philippines who arrived in the UK in 2002 as an A&E nurse. He eventually found himself on the path towards a career in clinical research nursing. As Lead Nurse, Dani oversees his team’s overall clinical setup and is dedicated to excellence in research delivery while fostering positive relationships with people.

What is the most interesting part of your role?

“One of the most interesting aspects of my role is being part of trials for new treatments being offered to patients for the first time, and the research delivery team for drugs that have the potential to become a life-changing treatment to our patients. Also, working with a wide range of teams with different specialities always gives you an opportunity to learn.

“In addition, being a lead nurse in clinical research who once started in an entry-level position, I find it fulfilling to see staff members develop into their fullest potential. Through education, strategic leadership and leading by example, the CRF management team encourages and enables professional and personal growth for staff. It is interesting to think that you become a part of their professional growth; one would say that a legacy is something that would mark a lasting impression on people, and for me, that legacy is the art of creating future leaders in research.”

What’s the importance of research in healthcare?

“Healthcare research is a must. Repeatedly, research has proven to everyone that it is a vital part of an efficient healthcare system, as without research there are no evidence-based studies that enable life-changing treatments for patients or improve the care that already exists. One perfect example that I would like to highlight is how research played a vital part during the COVID pandemic. It is through research that COVID vaccines were developed, and these vaccines saved lives.

“Without research, there will simply be no innovations in patient care, no new ways of diagnosing or curing diseases, and no means of ending a pandemic.”

What do you like about working at King’s?

“King’s is a healthcare institution of diversity and culture. What I love about King’s is that equal opportunities are provided to all the staff members. People are kind and respectful and we work as a team with compassion towards our colleagues and patients and at the same time maintain a certain degree of excellence.”
