Our new staff profile for January 2023 is Harsh Raman, staff nurse, Surgical Ward 6 at the Princess Royal University Hospital. Harsh has been working with King’s for almost a year since joining in February 2022.
“I love my role as a surgical nurse because I have the privilege of helping others when they are at the most vulnerable. I witness some of their greatest triumphs and their defeats. There is nothing better than attending a birth, holding the hand of someone who is dying, or helping someone achieve a better life by improving their health. It is a legacy that will live on long after you are gone. The patients and families will remember your warm smile, your gentle touch, the knowledge you shared, and the fact that you cared for them.
“My New Year’s message for my co-workers and patients is: I want to acknowledge the enormous contributions made by all healthcare professionals in response to the COVID-19 pandemic, particularly by the nurses and members of nursing care teams. I want to express my sorrow and deepest sympathies to the friends, families, and co-workers of nurses who faced health issues or passed away from work-acquired COVID-19 infections. I am grateful to front-line care providers, ranging from nursing home aides to emergency department staff, particularly the nurses whose creative problem-solving and attention to complex patient needs helped many over the past year. I hope everyone will remain healthy and enjoy their lives to the fullest.”
