New Non-Executive Directors join King’s
06 May 2025 - Gerry Murphy and Dr Angela Spatharou have joined as new Non-Executive Directors to the Board at King’s College Hospital NHS Foundation Trust.

Gerry Murphy was previously a Non-Executive Board member of the Department of Health and Social Care (2014 to 2024), and also chaired its audit and risk committee.
Gerry is also a Non-Executive Director of Currys PLC, and was formerly Senior Independent Director of Capital & Counties Properties PLC, and a Non-Executive Director of Capital & Regional PLC.
He is also a former Deloitte LLP Partner and member of the Deloitte Board, and was previously Chairman of the Audit and Assurance Faculty of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales.
Dr Angela Spatharou is a Senior Partner, UKI and EMEA Leader for Healthcare and Life Sciences for IBM Consulting, and a member of IBM’s global Healthcare leadership.
She is also a member of the Council of The London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE), a member of the LSE Finance and Estates Committee, and of the LSE Data Science Institute (DSI) Advisory Board, and a Governor Emeritus of the LSE.
She has spent over two decades working with the NHS and international health systems, health providers, insurers and digital innovators on value-based care, productivity, digital health and advanced analytics, in senior leadership roles with IBM and formerly with McKinsey & Company.
Dr Spatharou was awarded the UK Management Consultancies Association (MCA) “Thought Leader Consultant of the Year” Award in 2022 for her work driving “new thinking globally around AI, Digital and Analytics, and also on inclusiveness in Healthcare and Higher Education”.
She has previously served as a Supervisory Board member of the EU agency European Institute of Innovation and Technology (EIT) Health; Board member of Action on Addiction UK; Chair of the Board of Kids’ City Foundation in South London; and Advisory Board Member of Healthcare Business International (HBI).
Sir David Behan, Chair of King’s College Hospital NHS Foundation Trust, welcomed their appointments.
He said: “We are delighted to welcome Gerry and Angela as Non-Executive Directors to the Trust Board at King’s. They both bring outstanding leadership and expertise to Team King’s, and will support our teams and volunteers in providing the best possible care to our patients.”
Separate to Gerry Murphy and Angela Spatharou being appointed, Simon Friend concluded his time as a Non-Executive Director for the Trust at the end of March.

He has been a huge support to me personally since I started, and I know he cares deeply about King’s, and the excellent staff who provide services for patients across our hospitals.”
