My festive story – Mable

24 December 2020 - We hear from staff who are working over the festive period

Continuing our staff Christmas series, we hear from Mable, who is working over the festive period.

“This year, I scheduled myself to work this Christmas. This day is special from other days, as most staff would have left their loved ones to spend Christmas with their patients by playing Christmas carols, singing along with patients, and ensuring our patients do not miss out on this special day.

“If I’m not working on Christmas, I come to work and give gifts and cards to thank my team for their support and hard work. It is also my tradition that I cook or bake for my staff. I lay the food on the table and surprise them.

“Before the pandemic, my 10-year-old daughter joined me at work to present gifts to patients and sang for them- this always put a smile on their face. Our patients get loads of treats, presents, pampering and staff singing. The atmosphere is just great. We have a piano in the ward, so if there is someone who can play, there will be some tunes being played. We once had a patient who played the piano at Christmas, which made that Christmas even more exceptional.”
