King’s staff help develop Long COVID resources

12 November 2021 - Members of our Occupational Health team have worked with other NHS colleagues on training materials for people impacted by the condition

For some people, COVID-19 can cause symptoms that last weeks or months after the infection has gone. This is sometimes called post-COVID-19 syndrome or ‘Long COVID’.

This situation has highlighted the need for clinicians across the NHS to learn more about the condition to help those suffering from Long COVID to be able to return to work.

Alongside colleagues from NHS England and Improvement, and St George’s University Hospital, members of our therapies team – who have experience of caring for patients with Long COVID – came together and led on developing training materials and guidelines for staff working with patients suffering from the condition.

The team developed a package of materials with contributions from GPs, frontline staff and individuals with lived experience of Long COVID.

The rehabilitation guidance will rollout out nationally to benefit patients across the country. Ultimately, the team hopes the resources will equip all healthcare workers with vocational rehabilitation skills to help patients with a range of conditions.
