King’s recognised for sustainability success

26 February 2026 - The Trust has been named in Healthcare Digital’s Top 10 Sustainable Hospitals

King’s has been recognised as one of the most sustainable health service organisations worldwide, after featuring at number eight in Healthcare Digital’s top 10 ranking of sustainable hospitals 2026.

Amongst our sustainability work, the ranking highlighted our Green Plan to 2028, which sets out how we’ll reduce our environmental impact while continuing to deliver world-class care. Staff and volunteers at King’s can all help deliver the Green Plan by taking steps including sustainability training, choosing to walk or cycle to and from our hospitals, reducing waste, and recycling wherever possible.

King’s has also launched a Clean Air Plan, in partnership with Guy’s and St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust, aiming to improve air quality to help prevent illnesses, reduce health inequity and improve living and working environments.

As a result of sustainability initiatives at King’s, food waste has dropped by 28% over the past two years, and solar panels are providing renewable energy at three of our sites.

Julie Lowe, Deputy Chief Executive and Sustainability Lead at King’s, said: “Staff across the Trust have been working hard to make a difference and create a greener, healthier future, and it is wonderful to have this recognition. We hope it shows our commitment to finding new ways to reduce waste, as well as making changes that benefit the planet.”
