King’s Lead Nurse lays wreath to mark Remembrance Sunday 2025

10 November 2025 - Aidan Slowie, Lead Nurse for Quality and Governance at King’s, and Chair of the Royal College of Nursing (RCN) London Regional Board, has laid a wreath on behalf of the RCN at St Paul’s Cathedral on Sunday 9 November 2025.

The RCN and other organisations attended the annual Remembrance Sunday Service at St Paul’s Cathedral in London, held to remember those who have lived and died in defence of justice and freedom in the service of humankind.
Aidan said: “It was an honour to be part of the Remembrance Sunday Service, and to be reminded of the sacrifices men and women have made for our country. Many of our amazing nurses, doctors and healthcare workers volunteer their time to military work, in addition to their substantive day jobs.
“It’s important to recognise that we have all benefitted from improvements in healthcare when lessons learnt in battle have been transferred back to the health service. For example, this knowledge and experience has led to significant development in areas including major trauma care, massive haemorrhage management and damage control surgery. For centuries, nursing staff and healthcare workers have had a pivotal role in conflict: both in warzones and in caring for injured service personnel, and their legacy of dedication and compassion continues to this day.”
Tracey Carter, Chief Nurse and Executive Director of Midwifery at King’s, added: “We are all exceptionally proud of Aidan, and all nursing and healthcare representatives who joined him last Sunday to pay tribute to those who gave their lives for ours. We remember their lives with dignity and ensure that their stories are never forgotten.”
