King’s appoints new Chief Nurse and Exec Director of Midwifery

25 January 2023 - Tracey Carter MBE will join the Trust in summer 2023

King’s College Hospital NHS Foundation Trust has appointed a new Chief Nurse and Executive Director of Midwifery.

Tracey Carter will join the Trust in June from West Hertfordshire Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust, where she has been Chief Nurse and Director of Infection Prevention and Control since 2014.

In her new role at King’s, Tracey’s responsibilities will include the professional leadership of the Trust’s 6,000 nursing, midwifery and allied health professional staff. She will also have overall responsibility for safeguarding vulnerable patients, as well as infection prevention and control.

Tracey has over 30 years’ experience as a nurse, and has held several senior nursing positions before joining West Hertfordshire Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust, including as Deputy Chief Nurse at Barts Health. In May 2019, Tracey received a prestigious Chief Nursing Officer award, and in 2020 she was appointed a Member of the Order of the British Empire (MBE) for her nursing leadership and services to the NHS.

Professor Clive Kay, Chief Executive at King’s, said: “We are delighted that Tracey will be joining us later this year at King’s. She will bring a significant amount of experience to the role, as well as a real passion to help us provide outstanding care to the hundreds of thousands of patients who use our services every year. Tracey will be a great addition to Team King’s.”

Tracey said: “I am very excited about being part of King’s, especially after having met staff as part of the recruitment process. The development of the new King’s Academy is really exciting, as is the opportunity to provide development, support and leadership to the team at King’s. I will also be sharing my own outlook, which is that it takes remarkable people to be nurses, midwives and allied healthcare professionals. They do amazing things for patients, and I continue to feel privileged to get up and be a nurse each and every day.”

Tracey will join the Trust in June 2023, and Clare Williams will continue in her role as Acting Chief Nurse at King’s until then.
