Keep in touch: Letters to Loved Ones email service

10 February 2021 - Keep in touch with friends or relatives in hospital by using the Letters to Loved Ones email service

To send a letter to a loved one, all you need to do is send an email to our Volunteer Service: [email protected]

Simply follow the instructions below. Your message will then be delivered to your loved one by our teams.

  1. Start a new email.
  2. Subject – please write ‘Letters to loved ones’ in the subject line.
  3. At the top of the message please put your loved one’s name.
  4. Write your message, but please be mindful of the information you share in this email. Do not disclose anything confidential or too personal. You may want to include a photograph too.
  5. Don’t forget to let them know who you are.
  6. Double check you have typed in the email address correctly and press send.

The Letters to Loved Ones email service will be monitored from 9am to 4pm, Monday to Friday (excluding Bank Holidays).

We will aim to deliver all messages the next morning. However if you sent your email after 4pm these will be printed the next day and delivered the following day.

We will not collect or share any personal data, including email addresses, or any other information contained within the body of an email other than for the purpose that it is intended.

Keeping patients entertained
As well as the Letters to Loved Ones service, every morning our volunteers will drop off a bag of activities, including colouring in and crosswords for inpatients. These bags will be delivered to ward staff at the door. On most of our wards, we also now have portable DVD players for patients to use, and a selection of DVDs that are regularly exchanged.

Drop-off and collection service
We understand that it can be difficult not being able to visit your loved ones in hospital. With support from our Volunteers team, we have set up a service to allow you to bring in personal items that can be passed on to patients on our wards.
