King’s Consultant Pharmacist elected Honorary Treasurer of the Intensive Care Society

Reena Mehta, Consultant Pharmacist in Critical Care at King’s College Hospital NHS Foundation Trust, has been elected as the Intensive Care Society’s new Honorary Treasurer.
Reena was elected by members of the society’s council following an open nomination process and will take up the role in December 2026.
In 2024, Reena became the first pharmacist to chair the Intensive Care Society’s Learning Division, where she led on the delivery of its multidisciplinary educational programme, including the development of the popular Inside Intensive Care webinar series, bringing together expertise from across the Intensive Care Team and making high-quality education more accessible to members.
In her role at King’s, Reena has led programmes that improve patient care and strengthen critical care pharmacy services, including expanding the critical care pharmacy workforce in line with the growth of the ICU service. She also led work on the importance and practical challenges of accurately weighing ICU patients, helping to optimise and improve clinical care while supporting colleagues locally, nationally and internationally to innovate and develop their own research and leadership portfolios. More recently, Reena has championed the implementation of continuous β‑lactam infusions – a way of giving key antibiotics more steadily so drug levels stay in the optimal range needed to treat severe infections in critically ill patients – an approach informed by large international trials that helps optimise treatment for sepsis and other serious infections while supporting safer, more effective antimicrobial practice in the ICU.
Commenting on her appointment, Reena said: “I am honoured to have been elected as Honorary Treasurer of the Intensive Care Society. Having been closely involved with the society for many years, I am passionate about ensuring it remains financially secure, well governed and able to deliver its strategic priorities for members and the wider intensive care community.
“As Chair of the Learning Division, I have seen first-hand the impact that a strong, inclusive and multiprofessional society can have on education, professional development and patient care. I look forward to working with colleagues across the society to support its continued growth, impact and long-term sustainability.”
