Team King’s shortlisted in HSJ Digital Awards 2026
26 January 2026 - The Emergency Care team at King’s is in the running for a prestigious HSJ Digital award.
King’s Emergency Department Digital Front Door (ED DFD) programme has been shortlisted for the Improving Urgent and Emergency Care through Digital award category, in recognition of its impact on waiting times and patient care.
The ED DFD programme, delivered through a partnership with NHS England’s Urgent and Emergency Care Digital team and King’s clinical and technical teams, aims to address growing pressures on emergency and urgent care services in London. The programme provides clinicians with faster access to patient information, improving patient safety and helping people access the treatment they need more rapidly.
Daniel Harrold, General Manager – Emergency Care, Clinical Site Operations, & Complex Discharge Services, at King’s said: “As part of the ED DFD programme, on arrival at the Emergency Department at King’s College Hospital, patients aged 18 and over can use our digital check-in service to provide information about their condition. This process is helping specialist staff prioritise high-risk patients, ensures people see the specialist they need as quickly as possible, and helps bring down waiting times.
“This transformation to our Emergency Department and Urgent Treatment Centre would not have been possible without the support of teams and staff at all levels across the Trust, and we are extremely proud that these achievements have been recognised. We are working with NHS England to investigate how the programme might be expanded, helping even more people get the emergency care they need faster.”
Angela Helleur, Chief Delivery Officer at King’s, said: “This is fantastic recognition of colleagues’ dedication to developing innovative ways to uphold the highest levels of patient care. We’re excited to see how this digital transformation will continue to grow and benefit even more patients in the future.”
