Lead Nurse for Vulnerabilities represents Team King’s at Florence Nightingale Foundation Commemoration Service

19 May 2025 - Chelsie Sills was chosen to act as a lamp escort at the symbolic event

On Monday 12 May 2025, Chelsie Sills, Lead Nurse for Vulnerabilities at King’s College Hospital NHS Foundation Trust, joined over 2,000 guests at Westminster Abbey for the 60th annual Florence Nightingale Foundation Commemoration Service.

The event is held annually to honour the pioneering work of Florence Nightingale in nursing, providing an opportunity to reflect on the values of compassion, dedication, and innovation that define the profession.

In her role as Lead Nurse for Vulnerabilities, Chelsie has helped to develop a new model of care which takes a holistic, trauma-informed approach to addressing the needs of vulnerable adults in acute hospital settings. She said: “It was a real honour to have been asked to participate in the Commemoration Service as lamp escort. Having attended the service as a student in 2013, it was a real full circle moment and an occasion to celebrate my career and achievements as a nurse.

“To be in the presence of thousands of nurses and midwifes from all over the UK, championing and supporting each other, was very special.”

Tracey Carter, Chief Nurse and Executive Director of Midwifery at King’s, added: “It is an incredible honour for Chelsie to be able to represent King’s as a Lamp Bearer at the Annual Florence Nightingale Foundation Commemoration Service. We’re extremely proud of her and all the nurses, midwives and supportive colleagues at Team King’s who continue Florence Nightingale’s legacy of delivering compassionate and high-quality care.”
