Urogynaecology
What we do
We assess women with lower urinary tract conditions, prolapse and associated problems such as incontinence. We also advise patients on stress incontinence; overactive bladder; intermittent self-catheterisation; pelvic floor therapy; bladder retraining; and continence and prolapse surgery.
We are at the forefront of research into all areas of urogynaecology, so our patients benefit from the latest surgical and drug treatments. We offer a wide range of investigations and carry out some surgery as a day case or outpatient procedure.
The services we provide include:
- one-stop assessment, investigation and treatment planning clinics
- specialist care for older people through our Urodynamic Clinic for the Assessment and Review of the Elderly (UCARE)
- follow-up urogynaecology
- incontinence and prolapse surgery
- drug therapy
- treatment of overactive bladder using percutaneous tibial nerve stimulation
- perineal clinics
- pessary clinics
- catheter care
- bladder retraining and physiotherapy patient education classes.

Conditions we treat
We provide clinical assessment of women with lower urinary tract dysfunction, prolapse and associated problems including incontinence. Our clinics offer a range of investigations, including:
- urine analysis
- uroflowmetry
- ultrasound
- urodynamics
- subtracted provocative cystometry and pressure flow studies
- video-cystourethography
- cysto-urethroscopy and bladder base biopsy
- urethral pressure profilometry
- ambulatory urodynamics
- pad testing
- electromyography.
We also provide advice on:
- urodynamic stress incontinence
- overactive bladder
- intermittent self-catheterisation
- pelvic floor therapy
- pharmaceutical therapy
