Paediatric allergy

What we do

We diagnose, treat and manage all aspects of allergic disease in children up to 16 years of age.

Our service offers a full range of allergy diagnostic tests, including skin prick and RAST testing, and also carry out food challenges and drug provocation tests.

We offer subcutaneous and sublingual immunotherapy for the treatment of allergic rhinitus and subctaneous immunotherapy to desensitise children with severe reactions to bee and wasp stings.

We give families comprehensive information about avoiding allergen exposure and the treatment of allergic disease. This is supported by patient literature and emergency management plans so allergic reactions can be safely managed at home and school.

Our clinical nurse specialists also offer training in the use of adrenaline autoinjectors.

We have a specialist allergy dietitian present in all clinics.

Please ensure your child does not take any antihistamine medicine for at least four days before their appointment, as this may interfere with the skin prick test results.

During the clinic visit, your child may be seen by a doctor, clinical nurse specialist and/or dietician. Most children stay in the department for an average of one and a half hours.
