Biography

Following specialist training as a registrar on the St Mary's rotation and as a Senior Registrar on the Charing Cross rotation, Mr Wilkinson undertook a one year Fellowship in Knee and Trauma Surgery at the Royal North Shore Hospital in Sydney. On his return he worked as a senior registrar and then locum consultant at the Chelsea and Westminster Hospital.

In January 1997 he was appointed as a locum consultant at King's, and was appointed to the substantive post within the month. Since his appointment he has been the principal knee surgeon at King's College Hospital. He has set up and run the knee unit and provided a supportive service to GP and hospital colleagues, including the production of an exercise video/DVD for joint replacement patients, helping to set up a sports injury clinic and setting up a joint replacement follow-up clinic (where all patients are 'scored') with a senior physiotherapist.

He has also run the undergraduate teaching in orthopaedics at King’s College School of Medicine and was appointed as an Honorary Senior Lecturer for this role. He was also on the undergraduate curriculum committee when Guy's, King's and St Thomas's Medical Schools merged and he has examined at the year 4 final examinations since the merger.

Mr Wilkinson has run courses for GPs and physiotherapists, and has also visited a number of GP and Physiotherapy
practices for CPD meetings to enable him to meet GP and Physiotherapy colleagues and keep primary care colleagues abreast of current practice in knee surgery.
