Update on visiting guidance in Maternity services

As changes in lockdown restrictions start to take place, our maternity department is also making changes to the access provided.

Thank you all for your ongoing support during the pandemic. Due to the increase in cases of COVID-19 at our hospitals we have had to restrict visiting times and appointment attendance to help reduce the spread of the virus at numerous points throughout the last year.

As changes in lockdown restrictions start to take place, our maternity department is also making changes to the access provided.

The changes below will be made from Monday 12 April 2021:

  • All women and birthing people will be able to attend hospital-based antenatal clinics (Windsor walk, Community Midwives Centre, Midwives House, Orpington Hospital, Beckenham Beacon and Queen Mary’s – Sidcup) with one other person. The person attending with them should comply with hand sanitisation and wear a face mask for the duration of the visit. In order to maximise space and maintain social distancing regulations, the accompanying person will be asked to wait outside the building until the woman or birthing person is asked into the clinical room for their appointment. Please note that we are not able to change appointment access for the Venetian building at King's College Hospital, local GP surgeries and Children’s Centres at present. We are in talks with individual managers of these buildings and will inform you of any changes.

  • We are also extending our visiting hours to 24 hour attendance for one support person per woman or birthing person. There will be no ability to swap this person and visitors should endeavour to remain at bedsides as much as possible. Face masks must be worn at all times in communal ward areas.
  • There will be no COVID-19 swabbing requirements but visitors should inform us if they have symptoms of COVID-19, have had a positive lateral flow or PCR test within the last 10 days, or have been in contact with someone with COVID-19 and are self-isolating. Visitors will still be required to complete a visitor passport and sign it every day they are visiting.

Please note that sleeping and washing facilities and food will not be provided to visitors.

Thank you for your compliance and support with these new changes, which we hope will improve your experience with us while keeping everyone protected.
