Dr Clive Kay has been appointed as Chief Executive of King’s College Hospital NHS Foundation Trust. Clive succeeds Peter Herring who has served as Interim Chief Executive since May 2018, and will take up post on April 1 2019. The Chief Executive is accountable to the Trust Board for the leadership and management of the Trust, its resources, plans and activities to ensure the highest standards of quality, service and governance are met. The appointment was announced to staff at King’s College Hospital by Ian Smith, the interim chair, on January 15 2019.
Dr Kay said: “I am leaving many wonderful colleagues not only in Bradford Teaching Hospitals, but throughout the entire local health and care system in Yorkshire and Humber. However, I am looking forward to joining the team at King’s and working alongside all its outstanding and highly committed staff. I feel immensely proud and privileged to have been given the opportunity to lead such a prestigious organisation.”
Clive has extensive clinical and leadership experience. He has been Chief Executive of Bradford Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust since January 2015. Previously he was Clinical Director of Radiology (2001-2006) and subsequently the Trust’s Medical Director (2006-2014). Prior to working in Bradford, Clive was a Visiting Associate Professor of Radiology at the Medical University of South Carolina, a previous Member of Council of the Royal College of Radiologists and former Chairman of both the Royal College of Radiologist’s Scientific Programme Committee and the British Society of Gastrointestinal and Abdominal Radiology. He is currently a Fellow of the Royal College of Radiologists and a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians of Edinburgh.
