Norovirus in the local community

24 January 2019 - Help us stop the spread of infection at the PRUH

Exterior of the front of Princess Royal University Hospital

There is currently an increase of Norovirus in the local community. The virus, also known as the winter vomiting bug, causes diarrhoea and vomiting.

Norovirus symptoms usually last for between 24 and 48 hours, and most people recover very quickly. If you have symptoms, it is best to stay at home, rest and drink plenty of fluids. If you are still unwell after a few days, you should speak to your GP or call the NHS helpline on 111.

Visiting our hospitals

If you are coming to the hospital, as a patient or visitor, please make sure you clean your hands thoroughly with soap and water on entering and leaving wards. Alcohol hand gel does not kill Norovirus.

Thank you for helping us stop the spread of infection at King’s.
