23 July 2009 - Cases of swine flu are now prevalent across the UK. Flu symptoms include:
If you have flu symptoms, please do not come to King’s Emergency Department. Stay at home and contact the National Pandemic Flu Service for advice and information on 0800 1 513 100 or www.direct.gov.uk/pandemicflu
You should also not come to King’s for an outpatient or inpatient appointment or to visit someone who is in the hospital until you are better. You will recover faster and reduce the chance of spreading the virus if you stay at home.
Everyone can help prevent viruses like colds and flu from spreading by following these simple guidelines:
-
Clean your hands regularly using either alcohol hand rub or soap and water
-
Keep your hands away from your eyes, mouth and nose
-
Cover your nose and mouth with a disposable tissue when coughing or sneezing, throw the tissue away in a bin afterwards and then clean your hands
-
Encourage everyone in your family to do the same
King’s College Hospital has extensive plans in place to respond to a flu pandemic, and we work closely with colleagues in the NHS locally and across London.
