Partner charities

We work with a number of partner charities who provide us with extra funding to help us continue improving patient care through research, training and providing the latest equipment and facilities.

Elimination of Leukaemia Fund

The Elimination of Leukaemia Fund (ELF) is the leading blood cancer charity in the UK, concentrating on patient-centred projects that advance the cure and treatment of the condition.

It helps King’s by supporting clinical work, funding the provision of equipment and facilities which will be used to treat patients, and helping to train clinicians, nurses and related health professionals.

For example, it recently donated £150,000 towards King's new Cellular Therapy Unit, which is scheduled to open in early 2012. The unit will pioneer new cell therapies for people living with leukaemia, diabetes and liver failure.

King's College Hospital Limb Reconstruction Trust

King's College Hospital Limb Reconstruction Trust was set up to provide extra assistance for patients with congenital and acquired limb deformity or fractures that will not heal. Patients often suffer greatly because treatment is painful, can take many months or even years and may involve multiple operations.

The charity supports King’s Limb Reconstruction Service by providing additional funding for its clinical, educational, training, research and administrative work, including equipment to speed up recovery, and extra nursing care and community/home-based treatments. It has also jointly funded with King’s the appointment of a specialist physiotherapist.

Variety Club Children’s Charity

Variety Club Children's Charity provides a range of support to sick, disabled and disadvantaged children.

Its flagship project is the Variety Children's Hospital at King’s, which remains one of the UK's leading children’s units, treating and caring for more than 40,000 sick children every year. Sick children come from all over the UK to receive the highest quality of medical care at the hospital. The unit also provides a general paediatric and paediatric surgical service to the local community, as well as neonatal intensive care for very sick and preterm babies.

WellChild

WellChild supports sick children, working to improve their treatment and care and to provide them, their families and their carers with practical support and information.

Working closely with King’s, the charity has funded research and clinical work in the Neonatal Unit and the children’s Liver Unit, a leader in its field and responsible for a number of major breakthroughs to help children with liver disease.

King’s is also a world leader in the field of cell therapy and WellChild has helped raise money for the new Liver Cell Therapy Unit, to improve facilties and equipment.
